So we've hit the third year of Iraq. If any of you were paying attention, you may have noticed headlines all over the Associated Press. "TENS OF THOUSANDS PLAN TO PROTEST!!!!" all over the friggin media.
So, here's the numbers of how many protesters there were on Sunday.
New York: 200
Japan: 800
Toronto, Canada: 1000
Oakland: 200
Point Pleasant, Michigan: 90
Hollywood: 1000

Now, that's impressive, isn't it? Where is all the rage, all the anti-Bush sentiment that those in mainstream media are so adament is brewing amongst the American public? Maybe the "mainstream" of America just had a bad cold that day.

Of course, there is always the other theory: Maybe the general public isn't furious about Iraq. Maybe the liberal glory days of Vietnam are not going to be relived, as so many in the media would like them to be. Maybe the general public is starting to see through the bias. Maybe they always were, and the left is just to blindsided by hate for Bush that they don't realize it.

Let's take a look at some more numbers here, shall we? The death toll of U.S. troops in Iraq is at over 2300. Let's bring it up a bit and say 2400. 800 per year. Over three years of fighting on the ground, if you look at military history that is absolutely unprecedented and phenomenal. Never in the history of the world has there been a major conflict with so few fatalities over that span of time. But you won't hear it that way on CNN, will you?

Then again, maybe media is starting to see that as a success, because the headlines are changing. Now it's "civil war". A co-worker was talking to me about this today. She is absolutely convinced that Iraq is completely out of control and civil war is inevitable. That wasn't her opinion two weeks ago.

So why the sudden change in headlines? Well, while the "civil war" has been raging, the rate of American fatalities has dropped to half of what it was five months ago. March is well on it's way to becoming the second least-deadly month for Coalition forces since this war began. Well, we can't have that on CNN, can we? We need something else.....oh, I know...civil war! That'll get people's attention. That'll stir up the masses. That'll get people to express their rage at George Bush.

A fine theory, the only problem with it is that it doesn't seem to be working so far.

So, what will the next one be after this most recent effort by the media to slam Bush fails miserably, yet again? My guess is a conspiracy theory that Bush and Saddam were twin brothers separated at birth, and their mother was impgregnated by none other than Adolf Hitler. I'm open to other theories, so feel free to share.
